Bye bye Mr. Curry

Pistons made a good move in getting rid of Curry. The free agent signing period begins on Wednesday, but the Pistons do not have a head coach. Unless they already have someone ready to sign as the new coach, they'll have a real hard time getting any of the good free agents available. I'm not even sure there are enough good players around to save the Pistons this season.

I am all for getting Gordon and a dark horse pick could be Tracy McGrady. Now that it looks like Yao is out for a while, Houston might be willing to deal McGrady. Pistons need a face lift, and these two guys could give them an instant boost offensively. I've heard Hedo is in the mix, but I don't think he'll want to go to Detroit. I'm sure he'd take less money to stay in Orlando and I think they're doing everything they can to keep him there.

I really can't believe they waited this long to fire Curry. Why in the H would it take them this long to make the coaching change? Is it because Rip hates him and the Pistons can't get a trade for him, or is it that the free agents they're going after won't commit to Detroit if Curry is still the coach?

My vote for new coach is...Jeff Van Gundy. I love listening to VG calling games. He's extremely smart and doesn't put up with any S%*T! The Pistons don't need to go with an unproven coach right now. Van Gundy did an amazing job with a really bad Houston team and he could turn things around quickly in Detroit. He might be able to help them land McGrady as well.

Here's to the Pistons completing Step I. Admitting they were idiots for hiring Curry and doing something about it.
Where are the GF's???

Holler Snacks!

Detroit's Downfall

I usually don't agree with HUGE that much, but the article he wrote in today's Sports section of the GR Press is right on. I probably look forward to the NBA season as much as any professional sports and I think the Pistons run of being a contender and making the playoffs is over. There have been plenty of moves being made in the Eastern Conference and all the Pistons have done so far is release Amir Johnson and sign a guy that's real tall, skinny, and nonathletic. Last time I checked, the NBA is full of guys that fit this profile.

It starts at the top. Curry is in way over his head. After the draft, Curry said something like this...We are going to focus more on character type guys than we have in the past. I'm not going to let anything like last year happen again while I'm in charge. I think Curry's point here was that it wasn't his idea to pick up Iverson last year and therefore it's not his fault they were as bad as they were. That being said, Iverson is not the easiest guy in the league to coach, but he has been extremely successful over his career playing for all different types of coaches. When you bring in a Hall of Famer, you figure out a way to use him the best you can. Iverson gave up on the team after the coach gave up on him.

Curry is just the start of their problems, but it doesn't seem like Dumars is accountable to anyone now that Davidson has passed away. Rest in Pieces Mr. Davidson. Your team is falling apart and Dumars now has to answer to your wife. Sad but true.

In a perfect world...Curry is gone, replaced by who, and then what's next?

Killer Crossover, Jr.

Tim Hardaway, Jr. just committed to UM as a part of the Class of 2010. He is built a little differently then his dad, about 6'5" and 175ish, compared to the short & stocky stature of Hardaway, Sr. He is just a 3-star recruit, but the experts are saying the kid can score. I am getting excited for this season as well as the long term prospects for the UM Basketball program. I am just hoping we see the dramatic change for the football program that we saw this past season for the basketball program.

Speaking of football, how many are getting excited for both College Football and the NFL? I said this to the wife over the weekend and she claims I say this every year at the same time. There is just something about weekends in the Fall that are unlike any other season. Who's with me?

NBA Draft: Sebastian Tel-NOT-fair

Photo: AP

I BARELY watched last night - actually only until the Pistons picked Daye. I had never heard of him either. He is one talk, skinny dude. I loved how Bilas said, "He is a very skilled player.....he is not athletic."

Sweet. Why would I want a 6'11" 190lbs, un-athletic player? If you were built like that, wouldn't you want to make up for your lack of beef with a little athleticism? A slow dude with skill will get pushed around by a 250lb big dude. Makes no sense at all. I hope he proves me wrong.

Also, I had never heard of Michael Rubio before Tuesday. I had not seen a highlight of him until last night. I kind of like his game. I am not sure if what he was doing in foreign lands will translate to the NBA Game, but he has a Pistol Pete/Steve Nash aura about him. And he is only 18.

Highlight of the night: Minnesota drafting 3 PG's in the first round!!! I had a chance to listen in on a conversation Sebastian Telfair had with friends while watching the draft. Here was the conversation as each pick happened.

Stern: With the 5th Pick, the T-Wolves select Michael Rubio.

Sebastian: Alright, alright. Nice little guy to back me up. I'll be teachin things to the young guy.

FIVE MINUTES LATER.....

Stern: With the 6th Pick, the T-Wolves select Johnnie Flynn

Sebastian: Hmmm, I'm not sure why they did that. Must be trading this pick for a big guy. If, not, me and the GM will have words.

45 later.....

Stern: With the 18th pick, the T-Wolves select Ty Lawson.

Sebastian: What the $%$????? (TV busted and furniture all overturned).

The video of this is way funnier, but you could imagine.

NBA Draft

Worried that there are only 3 contributors to the blog right now.

Anydubs...does anyone else hate the pick the Pistons made? When you look at the moves that Cleveland made with Shaq, Orlando made to get Vince Carter and is trying to keep Turkoglu there, I think the Pistons are going to be in a world of hurt this year. My prediction is that they won't make the playoffs this year unless they start to make some serious moves...besides a Forward from Gonzaga that I've never heard of.

Can I get that to-go please?

Yeah, that was really weird. It was almost like the guy literally got that beer to go, crazy. At least he asked us if we wanted to go play cards, if it wasn't so late I probably would have done that with him, seemed like an awesome guy.
I think the MLB should change how they determine wins and losses, it should be whoever strands the most runners during the course of the game should win. And if that were the case, the Cubs would be undefeated this year and have 43 World Series Championships.

My New Hair Is Sexy!!!

So Maggs decided to chop his hair.  In unrelated news, CSB is a little b!!!!! (Those stories really aren't related and Magg's pic (courtesy of The Detroit Free Press) has nothing to do with this story)

So glad the Tigers are beating the Cubs.  Nice to know the Cubs suck as much in the AL as they do in the AL.  Have fun not making it to the playoffs again Cubbies!  Hey CSB, have fun getting pissed off, again.  Meanwhile, Tigers are looking pretty good.  I'm loving the hot bats of Cabrera and Inge.  Great to have Marcus Thames back in the lineup with added power.   I'm going to bed.....   T-dogg

Felt safe knowing guy from Monelli's was going to be driving beer in hand...what was up with that????? ~T-dogg

Ummmm.....You Kind of Did!!!!

Sounding on off on our friend Kate Gosselin. Ok, I used to really like this show since I have two kids and I could relate to how they acted, especially the boys. They had an interesting life. I always thought Kate was a little crazy, but I respected her because THEY HAVE EIGHT KIDS UNDER 5, or at least they did when I started watching. But now it is completely out of control. Jon was one that I liked because he always seemed so calm, cool, and collected. It actually turns out that he is just a giant d-bag. I loved how he said he stood up for himself after getting pushed around for years and he was quite proud of himself. How about standing up for yourself and trying to work on your marriage instead of just running away like a little b? And Kate, you are no better in this process. I read today that Monday's episode got over $10 million viewers, the highest ever for a TLC show. Good for you!!!! You have exploited a family struggling to make it by giving them things, helping them maintain an unrealistic lifestyle, and have most likely caused 6 of 8 (random guess) of the kids to have some sort of rebellious behavior at some point between the ages of 15-23. I hope the $ was worth it. The sad thing is, it probably was.

Reporting live from just outside Wyomising, PA (home of the great Chad Henne, whose parents were either coal miners or steel workers - kind of cool), I'm T-dogg.

One Car = Suck

So.....it just so happened that the one time in the last 4 years I've had to ride my bike to work also happens to be the hottest of 2009 so far. Awesome.
Nothing like walking into the office DRIPPING sweat, and now I have to wait for my shirt and undies to dry while I work. It's an overall great feeling.
I'm sure the ride home will be even better, because by then it'll be 167 degrees with 200% humidity, but at least then I'll be able to jump right in the shower.
Good times over here.
Looking forward to tonight, T-Dogg just get there as soon as you can, I'm sure you'll get there in plenty of time to see one of the teams relievers blow the game.
Holler.

-CSB
I'll be at Monelli's tonight. Probably a little after 7.

Just saw Greg Jennings is going to get a 3-year extension from the Packers.

Go Pack Go! Go Pack Go!

Who else things Cutler will be a BUST in Chicago this year?

-Possum

Gregg is Good

All I have to say about last night is F. Kevin Gregg was the worst possible pick-up for the Cubs because he can't handle big situations and is more nerve racking than Jones when he's in there. I guess the only positive is that Kerry Wood blew two saves against the Cubs for the Indians, so I can't really say I'd rather have him either. Plus, the Cubs got a little lucky that Zumaya decided against throwing a pitch that Micah can't hit, and thought it would be a good idea to toss up an 85 mph meatball for him. What an idiot. Go play Guitar Hero.
Who's all meeting up at Monelli's tonight for our first 'on location' roundtable? I think CSB, T-Dogg, Ralphs, and Possum are in for shizzle, and Jefe thought he could make it.
Don't forget to sign your posts GF's!

Go Tigers!

Just watched the Tiger's win in the bottom of the 9th. Nice!

Anyone ever eat Mint Moose Tracks ice cream from Meijer? This stuff is amazing...my wife just fell on the floor while eating a really, really large brownie. Gross.
Tigers win!!! Tigers win!!! What up CSB????? Big decision, big results. Your thoughts following the dramatic finish........can't wait for tomorrow!

NBA Talk

Did anyone notice the trade between the Bucks and Spurs today? The Bucks get nothing in return on this deal besides cap space to sign Ramon Sessions and Charlie Villanueva. I think the Bucks are intentially trying to be losers...kind of like the Lionos.

More importantly, who are the Pistons going to pick in the NBA Draft and what moves do they have to make to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference?

Channel 8

Has anyone noticed that:
1) Suzie Q seems to be having some issues with her hair in this high humidity
2) They have once again overblown a story - B93 Birthday Bash?
I think we are finally on our way, and thank you to T-Dogg for getting the ball rolling. Also, though I do have expertise in the area of turkey commodities sales, I am no longer involved in that specific market. I'd be happy to answer any questions, though I won't be able to give you daily updates on what the current market value of a pound of chicken necks are.
Where should we start?

HI Dudes

Welcome!

Do you have a hunger for information on basically all topics? Do you find yourself mocking TV shows, radio shows, etc. because it is fun? Do you have opinions you share to friends, but want want to reach a broader audience? Do you feel your opinions matter? Well, we KNOW our opinions matter. As a whole, the GF Roundtable has knowledge that far exceeds the typical blog site or talk show. Eventually, once we pick up steam, this blog may turn into a webcast, which will probably lead to a national show either syndicated on terrestrial radio or satellite. Our format most likely will lead us to satellite since our discussions can get heated and we want to keep the show "real."

The GF Roundtable is based in the midwest, with a lot of Michigan & Chicago flavor. Topics may seem to favor these areas, particularly in sports. However, we will definitely be discussing college & professional sports and anything pop culture related.

A general synopsis of the background of our bloggers:

- Lawyers
- CPA's
- Real Estate Agents
- Real Estate Developers
- Insurance Agents
- Turkey Salesman
- Managers
- Bankers
- Ex-College Athletes
- Video Game Experts

Each week (which could turn into each day), we will have a featured blogger. The blogger for the week will pick the topics and our other bloggers will be chiming in with opinions.

Expect to get regular contributions from:

T-dogg
CSB
Possum
Big Perm
B
Jer aka Big Red
Ralphies
Jorge Posada, aka Senor Posada, aka Sir Georgio McClean
El Jefe, when he is not teaching algebra

More info to follow, once I get all the GF Crew on board.

Sincerely,

T-dogg
